3D Artist

We are looking for a 3D Artist Generalist to join the team of Space Whale, our new is a dynamic and innovative creative studio that specializes in immersive experiences within the VR and gaming sector. We're committed to pushing the boundaries of visual storytelling and interactive worlds.

Position Overview
We are currently seeking a passionate and versatile 3D Artist Generalist to join our fully remote team.
You will be a key player in translating our creative visions into low-poly 3D art assets optimized for VR and gaming environments. This role will predominantly focus on creating props and simple characters, with an emphasis on low-poly modeling techniques, topology knowledge, UV mapping, and texture creation using Substance Painter.


Key Responsibilities

  • Low-Poly Modeling: Create high-quality low-poly 3D models of props and simple characters optimized for VR and gaming platforms.
  • Topology: Demonstrate a deep understanding of topology to ensure that 3D models are optimized for smooth deformation and performance.
  • UV Mapping: Create efficient UV maps for 3D models to ensure accurate and optimized texture placement.
  • Texture Creation: Utilize software like Substance Painter to create textures that enhance the visual appeal of 3D assets.

 

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a 3D Artist Generalist with a portfolio showcasing expertise in both hard surface and soft surface modeling, including low-poly modeling and texture creation using Substance Painter.
  • Proficiency in one of the industry-standard 3D software for game development (e.g., Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D).
  • Strong understanding of low-poly modeling techniques, topology, UV mapping, and Substance Painter.
  • Ability to adapt to various art styles and project requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, especially in a remote work environment.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing your own workflow efficiently.


Additional Skills (Preferred but Not Required)

  • Rigging, Rig characters and assets for animation, focusing on maintaining proper topology for fluid animation and interaction within VR and gaming environments.
  • Animation skills, including character animation, to bring life and movement to 3D assets.
  • Experience in VR/AR development or game design.
  • Knowledge of game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, including Git, to collaborate effectively with the development team and track changes in the project.
