Overview

An educational virtual reality adventure that combines gaming and technology to raise awareness among young people about road safety and respect for rules.

Challenge

To develop an engaging, hands-on experience using a language suited to young audiences, promoting a model of active road and civic education.

Solution

An adrenaline-packed course, playable in VR and on mobile, on bike lanes or multi-lane roads, where the player must answer questions about road signs by choosing the correct lane to indicate their answer.

The Project

The strength of Pathway Legend lies in its ability to turn play into an indirect educational tool.
The user experience is designed to be accessible and customizable, encouraging young people to learn through practice. This not only boosts engagement but also provides the Municipal Police with a new way to communicate fundamental values.
Through this serious game, authorities can interact with young people during school events or community outreach initiatives, using a playful, technology-driven language that builds trust and enhances the perception of their role. It is an effective approach for delivering lasting educational messages, combining learning content with entertainment.

Inside the experience

As soon as they put on the headset, the player enters an immersive virtual platform, where they can create their avatar and choose how to take on the challenge: by bicycle, electric scooter, scooter, car, or—for the bravest—on foot.
The adrenaline-filled course unfolds on bike lanes or multi-lane roads, viewed in a dynamic third-person perspective. But it’s not just a race: players must answer questions about road signs, indicating the correct answer by selecting the appropriate lane. Obstacles such as pedestrians, cyclists, construction sites, and other unpredictable elements test reflexes, attention, and decision-making skills, affecting overall performance.
Before the race, players can collect strategic boosters—such as helmets or licenses—that provide concrete advantages, while avoiding misleading items that penalize the run. Correctly responding to complex situations is essential: respecting speed limits, avoiding phone use while driving, or calling for help in emergencies.
And if they reach “game over”? The game offers a second chance: correctly answering a challenging question allows the player to re-enter the race. A compelling mix of action, reasoning, and reflexes, where only those who master knowledge and skills can reach the finish line.

About the design

The visual design of Pathway Legend is crafted to capture the attention of young audiences: bright colors, playful style, and smooth animations are paired with consistent game audio design, creating a fully immersive experience. Virtual environments feature references to iconic locations in Soragna and Busseto, bridging the digital world with the real one.
At the start, a tutorial room allows players to discover easter eggs, listen to local stories, and familiarize themselves with the rules. At the end of the race, the leaderboard lets them compare scores with others and review correct and incorrect actions.
The game offers two modes to suit different play styles and experience levels:

  • Free Mode: players freely choose their vehicle to complete the entire course.

  • Level Mode: the course progresses gradually, starting on foot and unlocking new vehicles—bicycle, scooter, electric scooter, and car—as levels are completed.

This design approach strengthens the challenge element and promotes structured, gradual learning, blending fun and education into a complete experience.
