Overview

Pathway Legend originated in 2022 within an active civic‑education pathway promoted by the Municipal Police of Soragna and Busseto (Emilia‑Romagna). It is a digital educational adventure in Virtual Reality that fuses fun and learning, offering youngsters an immersive experience focused on road‑safety themes and civic rules through the language of play and the most innovative technologies.

The Challenge

The Municipal Police of Soragna and Busseto asked Digital Mosaik to find a technology and language suitable for young people—capable of delivering an engaging, direct experience—while fitting coherently into the broader, existing PL Kids educational programme aimed at promoting active road‑safety and civic education.

The Solution

Using the language of play and Virtual Reality, Pathway Legend sensitises young people to key topics such as road safety, interpreting road signs, responsible technology use and respect for civic rules. Each player is immersed in a miniature world that captures full attention, turning them into the protagonist of a strongly educational experience and deepening their understanding of the Local Police’s role.

The Project

Pathway Legend’s strength lies in turning play into an indirect educational tool.

An accessible, customisable user experience encourages learning by doing, boosting participation and giving the Municipal Police a new channel to communicate core values.

During school events or community outreach, authorities can engage youths with a technological, playful language that builds trust and improves perception of their role—an effective way to deliver lasting educational messages by combining training content and entertainment.

Inside the experience

Upon donning the headset, players enter an immersive virtual platform where they create an avatar and choose their challenge vehicle: bicycle, e‑scooter, scooter, car—or, for the bold, on foot.
An adrenaline‑charged route unfolds along cycle paths or multi‑lane roads in dynamic third‑person view. It’s more than a race: players answer road‑sign questions by steering into the correct lane, while unexpected obstacles—pedestrians, cyclists, roadworks and more—test reflexes, attention and decision‑making.
Before the race, players collect strategic boosters (e.g., helmet or driving licence) that grant advantages, while avoiding misleading items that hinder progress. They must react to complex situations—slow at speed limits, avoid phone use while driving, call emergency services if needed. A “game over” isn’t final: a correct answer to a tough question lets them re‑enter the race. Action, reasoning and responsiveness blend into a powerful mix where only those who master both knowledge and skills reach the finish line.

About the design

Bright colours, playful style and smooth animations—backed by cohesive audio design—attract and engage younger audiences.
Virtual scenarios feature references to landmark sites in Soragna and Busseto, bridging digital and real worlds. A tutorial room at the start lets players explore easter eggs, hear local stories and learn game rules. After the race, a leaderboard displays scores and a summary of correct/incorrect actions.
Two game modes suit different play styles: Free Mode lets players immediately choose any vehicle for the full track, while Level Mode offers gradual progression—starting on foot and unlocking bicycle, scooter, e‑scooter and finally car as levels are cleared, reinforcing challenge and structured learning.
