Overview

An inclusive and immersive gaming experience that celebrates Olympic and Paralympic sports as vehicles of culture, innovation, and social transformation.

Challenge

Create an engaging and progressive experience that complements and enriches an evolving exhibition on the history of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Solution

A modular and accessible gaming experience, available both in VR and on mobile devices, designed to grow alongside the exhibition.

The project

The WOW – Winter Olympics Wonders gaming experience offers a unique opportunity to learn while having fun. Through points, levels, and challenges, participants can retrace the evolution of Winter Olympic and Paralympic sports from 1924 to today, embarking on a true journey through time that combines discovery and entertainment. The exhibition is continuously updated, with annual focuses from 2024 to 2026, leading up to Milano Cortina 2026: from “records” to “performance” to “territories,” exploring symbols, disciplines, milestones, and innovations.
Thanks to an innovative user experience, accessible both in virtual reality and via a mobile app, the traditional concept of an exhibition is transformed: from a static display to an immersive narrative experience, where the visitor becomes the protagonist.
A special opportunity not only for the public, who can step into the athlete’s shoes and immerse themselves in Olympic history, but also for the Trentino Historical Museum Foundation, which can bring museum fragments to the many events linked to the grand Olympic celebration, highlighting how sport intertwines with history and culture and offering a broader and more informed perspective on the meaning of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Inside the experience

Wearing the headset or using a mobile device, users access an interactive virtual platform where they can play as an Olympic or Paralympic athlete, competing in a downhill race. While the body engages in sports performance, the mind must answer questions on 16 different disciplines — including biathlon, bobsleigh, Nordic combined, curling, ice hockey, figure skating, and many more. To progress in the game, players must achieve good sports results and correctly answer historical quizzes. Each advancement corresponds to an edition of the Games, from Chamonix 1924 to the present day.
Only the most skilled players will preserve the Olympic memory, traveling through an exciting journey of legendary feats and technical innovations up to the present day.
RELEASE 2024 "Records"
The theme of records drives the first experience. The user, randomly assigned as an Olympic or Paralympic athlete, faces various performances related to speed, timing, and evolving equipment. Each “history” point unlocks upgrades consistent with the era, making the challenge progressively more complex and engaging.
RELEASE 2025 "Performance"
The records challenge is enhanced with a theoretical level, featuring quizzes, tricks, and educational insights on 16 different Olympic disciplines. Topics include the introduction of shaped skis, bobsleigh technology, and running prosthetics. The game becomes even more detailed and educational.
RELEASE 2026 "Territories"
The third release will focus on host territories and their relationship with the Olympic event. A new chapter, ready to surprise and further enrich the experience.
